Editorial Notes
As a forward to this publication, DAEDALUS Informatics, a key researcher in the wave energy field, would like to address some of the motives and issues that led our research team to decide on merit of making it available to the public. During course of the past 3 years, our site has been overwhelmed with inquiries for information from an astonishing variety of students, industrialist, academics, publishers and teachers. A major percentage of this traffic originates from the USA, yet European interest has a steady rise. Even more important perhaps, is the fact that students and researchers from developing world countries, are recently making a significant appearance as well. In certain cases we have been offering supervision and assistance in the monitoring of postgraduate student projects and, the compilation -or evaluation- of scientific reports. Although we were surprised with the amazing amount of public and academic interest being demonstrated, we were equally surprised with the lack of motivation from Institutions and Organizations to provide a wide coverage on the subject -or anything beyond a superficial presentation. Although there is ample proof that the eventual awakening of the public and industrial concern for wave energy, serious investment and accompanying measures, are yet long to be proven.
Since we are certainly not in the position to accommodate all spectra of demand, we were deeply concerned about public demand, which is force by itself no one can really neglect. Our decision has been to contribute -in as much as can this be undertaken by a private enterprise- to the worldwide education and 21st century explorative activities concerning wave energy exploitation. Under this statement, it is merely enough to emphasize that recovering from the predicament we have driven our planet to, is enough reason for any science and any motive to participate. DAEDALUS will progressively offer a radical thematic expansion of our specific web section dealing with wave energy development in the near future. A news group is also planned, as to furhter facilitate mature growth of interest, by attraction of expert participation. As a first step towards a proven path of consolidating basic field knowledge, a case-study project was selected, as to become a carrier of a consice overall presentation of an innovative approach. Although an early attempt, along with the fact that several aspects of research can not be disclosed to the public as yet, the "AKROKERAMOS project" will offer substantial contribution to the worldwide engineering and energy disciples, either in academy or industry. Hence forth, a basic version of this project is hereby available to the public, whilst a parallel activity of monitoring public responce and enriching appropriate sectors will also commence by DAEDALUS. Success in any initiative, can only be manifested in human terms. As always, out future has been subjected to our motivation that to our realizatio. Under this realm, we encourage a wide public participation and reaction, as this material will be progressively streamlined towards establishment of a wave energy news group.
