Monasteries of Mount Athos: History & Art

This series of CD-ROM based editions, is an electronic transfer and multimedia enriched rendition of the respective famous books, produced by the Mount Athos Monasteries. The purpose of these billingual editions was to offer a facile access to the worldwide audience, of the monumental and rare works in the inheritance and history of art. The current editions, as well as the ones to follow under the same theme ("Monasteries of Mount Athos, History & Art") aspire to offer an articulate and presentable adaptation of their respective books, in proportion to the corresponding progress in computer technology and the Internet, as well as to safeguard the value of data by adopting an open data architercture design method.

A broad amount of innovative methods and custom development was employed to the task of a concurrent design for these electronic editions, as to deliver products suitable for rendering on both a CD and the Internet. This was proven tobe a considerable challenge. The entire range of electronic publications has been designed as to abide by mature and reasonably tested industry standards and proven software engineering technology. Every possible effort has been taken as to anticipate for performance and requirement issues, that may result from a highly variable audience by means of demand, spanning from students to academics.
